On a recent evening, we visited Zumo, a new restaurant by chef Oscar Josue Ponce Pérez. It’s been getting great reviews and has a sister restaurant in San Miguel de Allende. Zumo is in the heart of the Romantic Zone, on Pulpito 142 to be exact.
The restaurant is a beautiful space with warm and inviting decor and a small patio out back for al fresco dining.
The menu has an interesting mix of seafood, meat, and vegetarian options. The best way to describe the cuisine is to call it New Mexican and the chef must have trained at culinary school because the dishes are innovative and artistically presented.

Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing – the perfect mix!
We shared the Tuna Tataki; seared tuna with pico de gallo, avocado, and a slightly spicy Mango sauce – beautifully presented and quite tasty. I came close to ordering the panko shrimp tacos, but we both ordered the mushroom risotto with brisket. We were sure glad to have made that decision – it was the star of the show! Really delicious and a feast for the eyes too.

Puerto Vallarta continues to add to its culinary reputation with clever and modern restaurants like ZUMO.
Give it a try!
