My Perfect Sunday: A Day with Richard Bartholomew

My Perfect Sunday in the Banderas Bay

One of the nice things about living in Mexico is that nobody works on Sundays. The day is usually spent with family or friends relaxing and catching up over a long and leisurely comida (lunch).

My perfect Sunday starts with coffee and the news on our patio. Living in El Tigre is a peaceful existence where you hear the birds and rustling of palms as they blow in the fresh morning breeze. We are lucky to live on the award-winning El Tigre Club de Golf, so I watch the early golfers hit the links – what a great way to start the day!

Motivated by the golfers, I try and get my steps in by walking around our pedestrian-friendly neighborhood or taking the short 10-minute walk to go to the Nuevo Vallarta Beach which lines the bay with 8 uninterrupted miles of powdery sand. The meditative sound of the waves and the vendors getting set up for a busy Sunday always brings a smile to my face.

Mid-morning we may go a little north to the bustling town of Bucerias and watch our son compete in a stand-up paddleboard competition. Bucerias is a haven for adventure seekers from kite surfing to paddle boarding and horseback riding.

After the full morning, it is time to relax and enjoy a delicious lunch.  We typically opt for one of the many beach club because they provide so many options to while away the beautiful Sunday afternoon. Our favorite is Sabal Beach Club.  The gorgeously landscaped lawns, oceanside pool, and on-site massages are just what the doctor ordered.  The restaurant offers scrumptious Mexican and international fare served with friendly and attentive service.
